Some of the judges' comments on The Interval:
The cinematography in this film is breathtaking. Each shot is a visual masterpiece.
This film is a true celebration of the human spirit. It explores complex themes with honesty and sensitivity.
This film left me with a sense of wonder and contemplation. It's thought-provoking and deeply meaningful.
A group of teenage filmmakers have come together to try and create a short film that for once, doesn’t have anything to do with combat and murders and is not a motivational piece of art. Our theme was ‘secrets’.We started with only one thought in mind and that was, this must be relatable to the audience and if it isn’t, it should tell them the story in such a way that they can’t help but relate to it.
The film talks about Suki, a teenage girl studying in a Design Institute who has missed her periods and her only hope at the moment is a small pregnancy test kit which will decide her future, literally. While she waits for the test to show results, in that span of five minutes, she overthinks every possibility at the speed of light. All the things that would happen to her, all the situations she would find herself in in case the tests comes positive, just flash across her eyes and keep pushing her deeper into anxiety land.

We wanted to experiment with different mediums so, our animation switches seamlessly between mediums that are poles apart and displays the aforementioned feelings visually in order to make the viewer understand what a girl feels when she is stuck in such a situation. “The Interval” as the name suggests, represents the pause in her menstrual cycle, the film is a journey of Suki’s mind where one can step into her shoes, just for a minute and learn to value the situation.
Documentation
Teenage pregnancies, scary, right? So many teenage girls go through this phase of fear, anxiety, frustration and it makes them feel trapped, isolated, such that their whole world has come crumbling down in an instant.

This phase is the only time when a girl will genuinely wish that she bleeds just so she can be sure that she is not pregnant. We tried to compose these thoughts, feelings, insecurities, fear and trauma that young girls face in a film, in an attempt to bring all this to light and stop it from being a taboo subject.

It is real, it exists and it must be addressed.
